Haywood Heritage Preservation Grant

The intent of the Haywood Heritage Grant Fund program is to assist with rehabilitation, restoration, or repairs to important exterior architectural elements as approved through the Historic Zoning Commission Certificate of Appropriateness process.
Applications for grants up to $3,500 will be considered.
This is a reimbursement grant. Applicants must be able to pay for all project costs in advance. Reimbursements will be issued to grant recipients after progress invoices are received and approved by the Haywood Heritage Foundation.
The budgeted scope of work approved must be matched by the homeowner with a minimum of 35% cash contribution. For example, if the budget for the proposed work is $3800, the owner would provide a minimum of $1330 (35%), and Haywood Heritage would reimburse $2470 (the remaining 65%). Grant recipients may receive ½ of the 65% up front.

• Property must be individually listed or be a contributing property within a National Register District in Haywood County, Tennessee, or be at least 50 years old and eligible for National Register status in Haywood County.
• Property must be owner-occupied; commercial or rental properties will not be considered.
• Property must be current with all city and county taxes.

Funding is available on a competitive basis, and the Haywood Heritage Grants Committee will review each submitted application objectively and will choose the grant recipients utilizing THE SECRETARY of THE INTERIORS STANDARDS FOR REHABILITATION.
All stipulations related to the grant will be detailed in a contract to be signed by the grantee and Haywood Heritage Foundation.

Haywood Heritage reserves the right to deny grant funding. Grants will not be based on an applicant’s relationship, if any, with Haywood Heritage or its members, Board of Directors, or donors. Membership in Haywood Heritage is not a prerequisite for being considered, or awarded, a grant. Current Board members of Haywood Heritage are not eligible. Any state, local, or federal taxes resulting from a grant are the sole responsibility of the grantee. Haywood Heritage is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization

• Total cost of the project, including amount of grant funding requested
• Photographs of area(s) that will be impacted by the proposed project
• Evidence of property ownership
• Proof of homeowner’s insurance
• Historic Zoning Commission Certificate of Appropriateness (if applicable)
• Contractor information, including license number and proof of insurance
• Proposed projects must meet all applicable building codes and design guidelines (if applicable)
